A member of the Central Hockey League, the RiverKings played their first 15 seasons, from the 1992–93 season to the 2006–07 season, as the Memphis RiverKings.

In 2007, the team was renamed the Mississippi RiverKings, and the hockey team signed signed a three-year lease with the DeSoto Civic Center in the Memphis suburb Southaven, Mississippi, where the RiverKings have played since 2000.
